Lipidair 10MG
Lipidair 10MG
Rosuvastatin, sold under the brand name Lipidair, is a statin medication used to lower high cholesterol levels and decrease the risk of heart disease, heart attack, and stroke.
How it works
- Rosuvastatin works by interfering with the body's cholesterol production.
- Blocks an enzyme: It is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, meaning it blocks the liver enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, which is responsible for making cholesterol.
- Lowers LDL and triglycerides: By inhibiting this enzyme, rosuvastatin reduces the liver's production of "bad" cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein or LDL) and fats known as triglycerides.
- Increases HDL: It also works to increase the levels of "good" cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein or HDL).
- Prevents plaque buildup: This overall effect helps prevent the buildup of cholesterol and fats in the arteries, a process called atherosclerosis, which can block blood flow.
Uses
- In addition to a proper diet, exercise, and weight loss, rosuvastatin is used for:
- High cholesterol (hyperlipidemia): To lower LDL and triglycerides and increase HDL in patients with high blood cholesterol.
- Cardiovascular disease prevention: To reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, and heart surgery in people with existing cardiovascular conditions or who have multiple risk factors.
- Familial hypercholesterolemia: To manage high cholesterol levels in patients with this genetic disorder.
